Musical Monday

(Song is right above this post. Press play to listen. {as if you didn't know})

It's officially Monday! Which means it's time for a song from one of my favorite musicals!

And just for the record, no, I was not sitting at my computer counting down the seconds until 12:00.

what we have this week:
"Still Hurting" from The Last 5 Years

Although, can I just take a moment and express my love for The Last 5 Years? It's beauty. If you were one of these "Oh my! I will marry Norbert Leo Butz because of his role in Wicked"... just. you. wait. His voice is beautiful. And Sherie Rene Scott earned a high spot on my favorite's list after I bought this album. Jason Robert Brown does not disappoint.
The Last 5 Years is filled with those songs that you go "I want this to be my audition song!" just so you can have an excuse to buy the sheet music and sing around your house day after day...

Now... back to Still Hurting. Not to say it isn't beautiful, but it's not my favorite off of the soundtrack. So why did I pick it? Well, one day I was driving along listening to my Sirius radio, (channel 77 "Broadway's Best"! With the lovely Seth Rudetsky) and they were playing their typical "safe" classic songs. ( I swear! The number of times I've heard "Standing on the corner watching all the girls go by...."!!!) Basically, I sit through a lot of it just anticipating something new or unique or a favorite to be played. So there I was, probably listening to another play through of "Hernando's Hideaway", when all of the sudden I heard the delicate introduction begin. I saw Sherie Rene Scott's name listed as the artist and I was at once interested. (She won me over in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels). I listened through the song feeling such emotion from her, such a pull into her story, and her voice wasn't too bad either ;) . I wanted to know more. So I went home and went straight to iTunes, where I was thrilled to see Norbert Leo Butz's name listed. Instantly, I bought the album. Then I fell in love. Bought the sheet music. Watched all the youtube videos I could scrounge up. So basically... the reason I chose this song is because it is the song that caused me to fall in love with the entire The Last 5 Years soundtrack. Maybe it can do the same for you.

Some of my favorites off the soundtrack:
"I Can Do Better Than That"
"See I'm Smiling"
"Nobody Needs to Know"
"Shiska Goddess"

Let me know if you like it!
